Item: Wine Labels (4) Description: Rectangle with gadroon border Hallmark: York circa 1815 by Barber & Whitwell Dimensions: 47mm x 34mm Comments: A very rare set of York hallmarked labels. Finding single York wine labels is a difficult task, so to find an original set of four is quite a coup. The labels are in essentially good original condition, however where the names have coincided with the positioning of the hallmarks, i.e. the "L" in Claret and second "R" in Sherry , a small hole has appeared. The hallmarks are all clear for the partnership of Barber & Whitwell (working together between 1814 and 1823). The names are: CLARET, MADEIRA, PORT, SHERRY.
