Dog Nose Spoon by Isaac Liger

Details

This is a superb example of a silver dog nose spoon displaying all the desirable features of such a spoon.

Dating from the Queen Anne period, this spoon was made in the purer Britannia standard form of silver and has a great set of hallmarks; it has a clear date letter and a good example of the rarely seen "Li" maker's mark for the Huguenot silversmith Isaac Liger.

To the reverse terminal can be found an engraved betrothal triangle "H" over "CE" which determines that the spoon was purchased to celebrate a wedding between a man with first name beginning with "C" and a woman with first letter "E" - their surname beginning with a "H".

This handsome spoon has a lovely, solid feel in the hand and has a striking rattail to the reverse of the bowl. A further bonus is the fine condition with an unworn bowl and an excellent patina.
