Fiddle, Thread & Husk Pattern Asparagus Tongs

Details

These are a superb and rare pair of early Victorian silver serving tongs. Fiddle, thread & Husk is a scarce flatware pattern and the decoration remains super crisp to both arms. The blades are finely pierced and one blade has a raised lip to the end to prevent slippage whilst serving. These tongs have a restraining bar to the centre to prevent over stretching and there is an engraved monogram to the ouitside of the bow.

The condition is superb and with a weight of 7 troy ounces, the quality is top class too and typical of that expected from the most important 19th century flatware makers, Chawner & company. Originally intended for use with asparagus, these Mary Chawner tongs in practice could be used for a variety of serving purposes.
