Gilt Trefid Teaspoon, 1680

Details

This stunning silver-gilt trefid teaspoon dates from the late Charles II period. It has a particularly elaborate trefid terminal, both sides are beautifully decorated with foliate engraving and there is a decorated rattail to the reverse of the bowl. This original engraving remains crisp with the further bonus of no personalised engravings. The spoon is in excellent condition with neither damage nor repair. Hidden among the decoration to the reverse stem is a clear "IH" maker's mark with a leaf motif between - this is most likely for the important maker Jean Harache who specialised in this type of spoon.
