Seal Top Spoon, 1633 by Richard Crosse

Details

This Charles I period silver spoon is very competitively priced and is a typical example of a pre English Civil War seal top. The spoon is in fine condition, although it must be noted that the bowl is a little scratched and has a few tiny dings, plus the leading edge is slightly worn from use (but importantly, there is no loss to the shape) and the seal top terminal lacks crisp detail which is most probably as a result of a much used casting mould.

Overall this is a good, honest 17th century spoon with the bonus of a great set of hallmarks; a clear bowl mark and excellent group of stem marks, including the RC maker's mark for the specialist spoonmaker Richard Crosse.
