Sugar Tongs - 3-piece; Bright-cut Engraved - London c.1780 by Charles Hougham - 14cm long; 37g - SL/7609

Bright-cut engraved silver sugar tongs were generally made in a single piece, however this rare example is made in three pieces as was standard of earlier cast examples. The arms are made of a thicker gauge of silver than the bow and the attractive decoration remains crisp throughout with no personalised engravings.

The tongs are marked in the earlier style too with the clear lion passant and "CH" maker's mark helping to date the piece to circa 1780. The condition is excellent throughout.
