The Service

This is a lovely 58 piece straight canteen of silver in a stylish 20th Century Pattern. The service provides for seven pieces per 8 place settings with four additional serving spoons.

All the pieces were made in Sheffield and bear appropriate hallmarks. The knives have silver handles and stainless steel blades. The service benefits from having no personalised engravings to the pieces.

Chippendale Pattern

This pattern was named in honour of the famous English cabinet maker Thomas Chippendale. The edges of each piece have a wavy raised line that are reminiscent of the mouldings to be found on much of his furniture.

Interestingly the hallmarks bear a special 1973 date letter that commemorated the bicentenary of the Sheffield Assay Office - i.e. it is the identical gothic style letter "E" that was used in 1773 when the assay office first opened. This is quite appropriate because Thomas Chippendale was coming towards the end of his working life in 1773.
