Antique PERRY Silver Bottle Ticket, c.1750
Sold
Wine Label - Perry - Circa 1750 - 5.5cm wide - DH/4583
This is a rare Georgian silver wine label named for "PERRY".
Dating from the middle of the 18th century, this escutcheon form bottle ticket is flat chased with vines and grapes around the incised title with blackened lettering. As can often be the case, this particular label is unmarked, but is typical of makers such as Sandylands Drinkwater and certainly dates from the years either side of 1750 (see photos below). It is in excellent condition.
Perry is an alcoholic drink made from the fermented juice of pears. It was a popular drink through the mid-18th century.
