Sauce Ladle - Bacchanalian pattern - London 1881 by Henry John Lias & James Wakely - 16.6cm long; 63g - KF/4500

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a rare example of a silver sauce ladle in the much sought after Bacchanalian pattern. It is in fine condition with crisp raised decoration and a lovely fluted, gilt bowl.

Bacchanalian pattern was originally designed during the Regency period by Paul Storr for Rundell, Bridge & Rundell. The handle is decorated with a classical scene of happy semi-clad revellers drinking wine within a garden landscape. They are celebrating the festival of Bacchus and the reverse side of the bowl has a mask of this Greek God of the grape harvest and wine. The reverse side is further decorated with wine related objects and has an engraved crest.
