Caddy Spoon - Bright-cut Engraved, Shell Bowl - London 1790 by Peter & Jonathan Bateman - 7.7cm long; 7.4g - RA/9284

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an exceptionally rare example of a Georgian silver caddy spoon made by the short lived partnership of Peter & Jonathan Bateman. This attractive caddy spoon is in one of the Bateman family workshop's trademark designs with a deep shell-shaped bowl and bright-cut engraved handle with monogram.

The spoon is in excellent condition with crisp decoration and clear hallmarks.

Peter and his brother Jonathan were sons of the famous Hester Bateman and their silversmithing partnership was cut short due to the premature death of Jonathan. All pieces with their sought after PB/IB makers mark bear the date letter "p" for 1790/1 as they worked for only 6 months during this date letter year.
