Marrow Scoop - Double-ended - London 1722 by Paul Hanet - 18.2cm long; 39g - GE/3864

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Paul Hanet was of Huguenot descent and was one of the finest silversmiths of the early 18th century and this silver marrow scoop is a great example of his work.

With a length of just over 7", it is a little shorter than most (dessert spoon-sized as opposed to table spoon-sized), but it has been fashioned from a good gauge of silver and consequently has a good, chunky feel in the hand. An additional feature of this extra quality is the fact that the scoop has made from the purer Britannia Standard silver - even though in 1720 the compulsory use of this purity was abandoned and the majority of silversmiths returned to the Sterling standard. The Britannia standard hallmarks are nice and clear too.

The condition of this George I period marrow scoop is excellent with a good antique patina.
