Sugar Sifter Spoon - Canova pattern - London 1861 by George Adams - 17.5cm long; 73g - NK/1051</p>

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Canova pattern is considered to be one of Chawner & Company's greatest designs and was made by them for the Great Exhibition of 1851. Antonio Canova was an Italian neo-classical sculptor and the front terminal of this spoon depicts his famous work of the Dancing Girl Reposing. The Greek poet Sappho with her lyre is depicted to the reverse of the bowl and a variety of motifs are displayed along both sides of the handle.

This fabulous quality silver sugar sifter spoon has crisp decoration throughout and bears the mark of George Adams who was the owner of Chawner & Company through most of the Victorian period. The bowl of the spoon is beautifully pierced and is gilt to the interior, plus there is a lovely engraved crest of a martlet surmounting a coronet to the reverse terminal. A superb spoon in great condition!
