Teaspoons (6) and Sugar Tongs (cased) - Medea Pattern - Birmingham 1923 by Liberty & Co. - Teaspoons: 11.2cm long. Sugar Tongs: 10.9cm long. Combined weight: 119g. Case: 21cm x 12.6cm - NC/6155

Designed by Archibold Knox, Medea was Liberty & Company's most popular pattern of spoon. The decoration is embossed to the terminal with three seed pods in the Art Nouveau manner. Unusually, the spoons are supplied with a matching pair of sugar tongs which are similarly decorated to both arms. These are good quality spoons that have a nice solid feel in the hand and they have the further benefit of being presented within their original Liberty case. The case itself is a little worn and one of the clasps is broken, but it has done a magnificent job of preserving the silver in superb, crisp condition. A lovely set of spoons!
