The presence of the incuse duty mark helps to accurately date these pair of Georgian silver sugar tongs to the December 1784 to May 1786 period - sugar tongs at this time did not bear date letters. Most importantly the condition of these cast arm tongs is excellent with neither any damage nor repairs. they have an attractive openwork design to the cast arms and are prettily engraved around the bow with an original script engraved monogram. As with all cast arm tongs, these were made in three sections (two arms and one bow) and the clear set of hallmarks overlap the soldered seams. A very fine pair of tongs.
