Crested Silver Port Label, 1784/5
Sold
Wine Label - Port - Navette with pierced border - London circa 1784/5 by William Abdy - 5.1cm wide; 10.2g - HS/1909
This is a very elegant Georgian silver wine label made by William Abdy. It has the navette or eye-shape that was popular during the 1780's and can be accurately dated to 1784/85 because of the presence of the incuse duty mark that was only used for an 18 month period.
The label has an attractively pierced border and the engraved crest just above the PORT title adds further quality. This antique silver bottle ticket is in fine condition with clear hallmarks including a particularly good example of the sought after incuse duty mark.
