Caddy Spoon - Dolphin Handle; Fluted Bowl - Birmingham 1862 by Henry Aston - 11.2cm long; 23g - RT/1625</p>

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an exceptionally rare caddy spoon and is in the form of a hollow dolphin handle with round scallop-shaped bowl. The dolphin is shaped as though it was swimming and holding the bowl in its mouth. Interestingly, the fluted bowl with castellated rim is a typical George Unite design and may have been bought in from this company by the maker. This an excellent spoon and it is in fine condiiton throughout with clear hallmarks.

The only previous caddy spoon of this design that we have encountered was sold by Christies from the Albert Collection in November 2006; it made a hammer price of £2000! This spoon was made in the same year, and although there is no direct provenance, there is the possibility of it being the same spoon. The spoon is illustrated and discussed on pages 248/9 of The Albert Collection book by Robin Butler.
