Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a lovely quality Elizabeth I period silver seal top spoon. It has a good weight in the hand and a well detailed seal to the terminal. The flat head of the terminal bears original dot-pricked initials and a clear "v" notch join can seen on the stem. The spoon has a generously sized fig-shaped bowl that retains its original size and shape.

The spoon has an overall pitted appearance that indicates that it may have been buried at some stage, but otherwise it is in excellent condition. The hallmarks are particularly good with a very crisp leopard's head mark that is struck slightly off-centre within the bowl. The marks to the reverse of the shank are also crisp, with a clear example of the "anchor" mark that has been attributed to Robert Rase.

A great example of an Elizabethan period spoon with character at a competitive price!
