Evodias Inman Seal Top Spoon, 1628
Sold
Spoon - Seal top - London 1628 by Evodias Inman - 15.9cm long; 35g - LS/3242
Evodias Inman is a lesser known name in Charles I period silver, but evidently was a fine, specialist spoonmaker.
This antique silver seal top spoon has a typical fig-shaped bowl on a hexagonal stem that terminates in a cast seal finial. The spoon has a good set of hallmarks with a particularly clear leopard's head crowned bowl mark and three stamps to the reverse including the EI mark of the maker. The spoon is in fine condition with a good unworn bowl, although the cast seal lacks some detail - most likely from a much-used mould in manufacture than wear from use - the original solder join can be clearly seen.
Overall a good example of its type at a very competitive price.
