A good Restoration period West Country apostle spoon with a clear Exeter town mark to the bowl. The cast apostle to the terminal is typically naive in form for a provincial example. It has vestiges of the original gilding and a spoked nimbus above his head. Although not of a thick gauge, the bowl remains more or less full shape. It bears contemporary to manufacture betrothal initials "MG" over "AB" over "1660" in dot prick engraved style to the back of the bowl.

A great spoon dating from a prominent time in English history (Restoration of the monarchy, Great Fire, Plague etc).
