Teastrainer - George V Silver Jubilee Commemorative - London 1935 by Wilson & Gill - 15cm long; 43g - PY/6714

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Commemorative coronation-ware can sometimes be a bit tacky, but on rare occasions they can be a masterpiece of design: this tea strainer being one such piece.

The handle and support are both formed as royal crowns and the pierced holes in the bowl are drilled as "1935" - the year of George V's Silver Jubilee - the whole giving the piece a lovely balance and satisfying feel in the hand. The tea strainer was designed by Robert Edgar Stone and proved so popular that it was revived and adapted for the coronations of Edward VIII (didn't take place) and George VI and these examples are far more common than this rare George V celebratory piece. The London shop of Wilson and Gill originally retailed this piece and the condition is excellent throughout.
