Medicine Spoon - Gibson Patent - London 1828 by Charles Gibson - 13.8cm long; 36g - JS/1862</p>

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

An early example of a rare Gibson's Patent medicine spoon. The spoon has a hollow handle to allow the user to control the quantity of medicine consumed by placing a finger over the aperture. This form of spoon was invented in 1827 and is stamped to the top of the bowl "C Gibson Inventor". The interior of the bowl and cover are gilt and bear clear hallmarks. The flush hinge is in fine condition, and the handle is free from dents. An excellent example of a much sought after spoon.

A Gison Patent spoon is illustrated and discussed in "Silver Flatware" by Ian Pickford on page 208 figure 379.
