Caddy Spoon - Long handled 'Hand'; Norie spoon 93d - Birmingham 1807 by Samuel Pemberton - 83mm long - Ref. No.: TC/9278

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

A      very rare form of the popular "Hand" caddy spoon. This      "Hand" is palm facing upwards and has a long handle with      engraved initials to the terminal. The spoon is in fine condition with      engraved finger nails and clear hallmarks.

The spoon was made by Samuel Pemberton during the boom      period of the "hand" (1805-1811). According to a survey by the      Society of Caddy Spoon Collectors, this spoon is one of three extant long      handled versions (the other two being London made and an Exeter example      was found following the initial survey) and is the only example of a      "Hand" by Samuel Pemberton (see Norie page 84).

PROVENANCE: This spoon was part of the John Norie collection and is      described and illustrated in his book "Caddy Spoons: An Illustrated      Guide" as plate 93d.
