Table Spoon - Hanoverian Pattern - London 1752 by Ebenezer Coker - 20.8cm long; 79g - VT/1843c

Weighing just shy of 80 grams, this is a super-heavy Hanoverian silver table spoon from the workshop of the most important 18th century specialist spoonmaker, Ebenezer Coker.

In addition to the high quality in terms of the satisfying weight, the spoon has many other positive features too - not least the superb condition with antique patina and thick bowl rim. The engraving to the reverse terminal is interesting with three of the four points of the compass indicated (no south), however without further evidence this is likely to be purely coincidental and instead this is a standard betrothal triangle for the period with the letter representing the forenames ("W" and "E") and surname ("N") of the happy couple.

The bowl has a double-drop heel to the reverse and the hallmarks are deeply and cleanly punched and includes the "EC" maker's mark of Ebenezer Coker and London marks for 1752.

This is as good a George II period silver table spoon as you are likely to find!
