Cream Jug - Helmet-Shaped with Embossed Decoration - London 1777 by Hester Bateman - 11.3cm high; 80g - DW/2664
Hester Bateman is one of the most famous names and English silversmithing and is often termed the "Queen of English Silversmiths". This beautiful silver helmet-shaped cream jug does her enduring reputation justice and has an attractive embossed design featuring ribbon-tied swags and festoons that is typical of the 1770's and Neo-Classical period.
The cream pitcher stands on a round pedestal foot and has an interior that was gilt at a later date to give an extra feeling of exuberance. It benefits from having no personalised engravings and a good set of hallmarks. It is in fine, antique condition.
