Table Spoon - Old English pattern - London 1778 by Hester Bateman - 21.3cm long; 70g - KT/6132c

This stylish Georgian silver table spoon was made in th workshop of the famous Hester Bateman.

The spoon is in the Old English pattern and is engraved to the front terminal with a charming presentation inscription written in the florid script syle that typified the period. The engraving reads "AS to JC". The spoon is in fabulous condition with a good, solid feel in the hand. The bowl retains its original shape without wear and the antique patina gives it a great feeling of age. The bottom-struck marks are easy to read and curiously there are two "HB" maker's mark, with the original large mark being over-struck by a small example - no idea why, but perhaps a Friday afternoon job!
