Sampson Mordan Silver

The silver produced by Sampson Mordan is some of the most ingenious to be found amongst British antique silver.

The ability to invent new ideas and designs first came to the fore when Mordan was co-inventor of the mechanical pencil in 1822. Mechanical pencils were a staple production throughout the life of the Mordan workshop until it finally succumbed to a bomb during the London Blitz of 1941. In addition to the pencils, Mordan & Co produced many novelty and mechanical silver items, plus a spectacular range of enamelled vesta cases and silver scent bottles often mounted on coloured glass or ceramic.
