Wine Label - BURGUNDY, Rectangular with Pierced Surmount - Dublin circa 1780 by Thomas Adams - 4.5cm wide; 6g - BD/7250
This rare Georgian silver wine label bears a "TA" maker's mark for the Irish silversmith Thomas Adams and is titled for BURGUNDY. The label is in fact punched twice with this mark, but one mark is only partially struck and barely legible. This NeoClassical label is beautifully engraved and has an attractively pierced surmount.
Thomas Adams is a rarely encountered maker and the mark can be firmly attributed on account of the lack of alternative silversmiths of the late 18th century with these initials.
