Wine Label - Port; Navette-shaped with Pierced Border - Dublin circa 1790 by John Sherwin - 6.7cm wide; 10g - SA/7711

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Late 18th century Irish silver bottle tickets are often very pleasing on the eye and this navette-shaped label is no exception. With its pierced and bright-cut border this good-sized wine label is engraved "PORT" to the central field.

The label bears a clear set of Irish hallmarks for circa 1790 and includes the IS maker's mark for John Sherwin who was a known maker of wine labels with 234 labels submitted to the Dublin Assay Office in 1788 - see "Wine Labels 1730 - 2003" page 278. The piece is in excellent condition throughout.
