Provincial

Provincial Irish silver generally refers to silver made in the cities of Cork and Limerick, although extremely rare pieces from Youghal and Kinsale do exist.

Cork silversmiths had their heyday in the late 18th and early 19th centuries with makers such as John Toleken, John Nicholson, John Warner and Carden Terry leading the way with their neoclassical designs and bright-cut engraved wares. Limerick silver is much rarer with production in the mid-18th century dominated by Joseph Johns, the late 1700's by Maurice Fitzgerald and into the 19th century with William Fitzgerald.
