In the 19th century, thimbles were often used as spirit measures and this led to the rise of the phrase "Just a Thimbleful". This novelty Victorian silver thimble gives a humorous slant to the saying with a capacity many times that of the standard thimble. It could be used either as a generous spirit measure or indeed used as a beaker for drinking out of. It is in excellent condition with clear hallmarks.
