60 Piece Silver King’s Husk Pattern Canteen, London 1820 by Paul Storr & 1828/29 by William Chawner

The Service

We are proud to be offering the rare opportunity to buy a fabulous George IV period silver 12 place settings canteen in the very desirable King's Husk Pattern. A further benefit is that the majority of the pieces were made by the most important silversmith of the 19th century – Paul Storr, with the remainder by the most important flatware specialist of the period - William Chawner.

All these spoons and forks were hand-wrought in the traditional manner with 36 pieces (12 table spoons, 12 table forks and 12 teaspoons) made in 1820 by the great English silversmith, Paul Storr and the other 24 (12 dessert spoons and 12 dessert forks) made in 1828/29 by William Chawner of Chawner & Company. Each piece bears the same crisply engraved crest within a garter and motto to the reverse side. The motto reads "Semper Virens" - which translates to "Ever Green".

This King's Husk Pattern service just oozes the highest quality and is an exceptionally good flatware service!

King’s Husk Pattern

King’s Husk pattern is a variation of the much admired King’s Pattern with a bold husk shell motif to the front terminal of the handle and reverse side of the bowl. It was first introduced during the Regency period (circa 1810) and is considered to be one of the best designs for silver flatware. It is a premium pattern with each piece having double struck decoration (i.e. on both sides) and so a good gauge of silver is required for its manufacture – therefore every piece has a good heavy feel in the hand.
