Louisa Courtauld Cream Jug

Louisa Courtauld came from an important Huguenot silversmithing family, being the widow of Samuel Courtauld (son of Augustine Courtauld). Following Samuel's death in 1765, Louisa at first ran the business alone and then took on the former apprentice George Cowles as a business partner. It is this partnership that produced the magnificent jug.

This is a larger than expected pitcher style milk or cream jug and has a hefty weight of almost 10 tr.oz. It stands tall (see comparison photo with soft drinks can) on a pedestal foot and bears an original script engraved monogram above the shoulder. It is in fine condition throughout and just oozes high quality.
