This tiny little silver mug is a 1720's miniature copy of a typical pint mug of the period.
The mug was made by David Clayton, the best London-based miniature maker of the George I period and bears both a clear excample of his "DC" in Gothic script maker's mark to the underside, but also a lion passant on the side of the body. Miniatures such as this often furnished extensive doll's houses. The mug is in fine original condition.
An identical example by Clayton can be seen in figure 210 in "Miniature Silver Toys" by Victor Houart and figure 76 in "Silver Toys and Miniatures" by Miranda Poliakoff.
