Mote Spoon - Flower Picture Back with engraved & Pierced Bowl - London circa 1760 by Edward Bennett II - 15.3cm long; 10.3g - RK/4864

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a high quality and rare example of a mid-18th century mote spoon with a superbly decorated bowl. The reverse side of the bowl has the unusual feature of a flower motif (a very rare picture back) and a superb mix of crosslet and scroll piecings among complementing engraving. In addition, the heel of the bowl bears original "D.C" initials. The mote spoon is in excellent condition and benefits from having a clear "EB" maker's mark to the shank. Incidentally the maker's mark is stamped twice - the second at an angle so that it superficially simulates a lion passant (as a duty dodger).
