The octagonal silver caster was the prevalent style during the reign of King George I and this good-sized sugar caster is a great example of the type.

This piece was made by Samuel Welder who specialised in caster making and has a good, hefty feel in the hand. The pull-off cover is attractively pierced and appropriately part marked. This antique silver sugar caster is in excellent condition with a good set of hallmarks to the underside.
