Table Spoon - Old English with Shoulders Pattern - London 1766 by Paul Callard - 22cm long; 75g - AB/3689e

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Paul Callard was the son of Isaac Callard and both were among the best specialist silver spoonmakers of the mid-18th century.

This table spoon is an excellent example of the scarce Old English with Shoulders pattern that formed the bridge in the 1760's between the earlier Hanoverian pattern, the fiddle pattern that was especially fashionable in France and the Old English Pattern that was to dominate flatware production for the next thirty years.

This spoon has a good hefty weight of 75 grams (2.5 tr.oz.) and has a superb engraved crest of an ox to the front terminal. The hallmarks are clear and include a great example of Callard's "PC" maker's mark. The condition and quality of this spoon is top drawer and the thick tip to the bowl is indicative of both - i.e. a good gauge of silver used and little wear from use. This George III silver table spoon has a fine antique patina.
