These are an equisite pair of Georgian silver shoe buckles that are excellent examples of their type.

The late 18th century was the heyday of silver shoe buckle manufacture when men's shoes were predominately plain and black and so setting a perfect backdrop for a highly decorated buckle. With its raised baubles and openwork design, this buckle is made to simulate the highly fashionable paste set buckles of the period. It has a standard 2-pronged form of steel chape for fastening.

Both antique buckles are clearly hallmarked to the sides, with the presence of the George III duty mark dating the pair to post-1785 and the maker's mark IL for John Lambe. They are in excellent condition.
