Pair of Irish Hook-end Sauce Ladles, 1775
Sold
Sauce Ladles (pair) - Chased Hook-end - Dublin circa 1775 by John Craig - 20.3cm long; 100g - FS/8657
The hook-end terminal is a distinctively Irish feature on silver serving spoons, most commonly seen on basting spoons, occasionally on soup ladles and rarely on sauce ladles.
This pair of hook-end silver sauce ladles are an outstanding pair with flat-chased decoration to the handles and expertly fluted, deep, round bowls. The terminals are further embellished with engraved crests.
The ladles have a clear set of Irish silver marks for circa 1775 and the "IC" makers mark for John Craig - smaller items of Dublin-made silver were rarely stamped with a date letter at this period.
The decoration remains in crisp condition and these are a truly fabulous pair of sauce ladles in excellent, original condition.
