Caddy Spoon - Spatula Handle - Inverness circa 1830 by John MacRae - 9.7cm long - CP/3038
This is a rare Scottish provincial silver caddy spoon made in Inverness by John Macrae.
The spoon has a plain, spatula type handle with rounded terminal and a fluted bowl. The handle terminal is engraved with the "S" initial of the original owner. The style must have been a success for MacRae as an identical example is shown as plate 80c in John Norie's "Caddy Spoons: An Illustrated Guide".
This antique spoon is in excellent condition with clear marks to the reverse: "J.MC.R", "INS" and a "thistle".
