Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is a stunning set of six Georgian silver dinner plates, each one emblazoned with the full Coat-of-Arms with lion supporters and coronet surmount for Earl Manvers. The coronet denotes an Earl and the motto reads "Pie Repone Te" which translates to "In Pious Confidence". This is the armorial and motto for the Pierrepont family.

These round, top quality silver plates were made by the premier specialist silver largeworker, Richard Sibley and have a shaped, bold gadroon border. They are in fantastic condition with clear hallmarks, crisply engraved armorials and an excellent patina with typical surface marks from use.

PROVENANCE: These plates bear the marital arms for Charles Pierrepont, 2nd Earl Manvers (1778-1860) and his wife Mary Laeticia Eyre of Rampton. Charles Pierrepoint has a successful career in the Royal Navy before taking over as Member of Parliament for Nottinghamshire seat vacated following the death of his brother in 1803. He shared the seat with Anthony Hardolph Eyre who was the father of his wife Mary. Charles became Viscount Newark before succeding to the earldom in 1816. The family home was Thoresby Hall in Budby, Nottinghamshire.
