Silver Claret Label, 1794 Robert Barker
Sold
Wine Label - Claret; Cut-cornered Rectangle - London 1794 by Robert Barker - 4.5cm wide; 9.6g - BF/4588
This handsome silver claret label was made by Robert Barker during the final decade of the 18th century.
The label has a reeded rectangular form with incurved cut-corners and hangs from a chain so that bottle contents can be readily identified. The name "CLARET" has been pierced to the label and the hallmarks to the reverse have been partially lost in the process. Above the Claret title is an engraved family crest. The label is in fine condition.
Robert Barker was the son of Susanna Barker and took over the running of the family business in November 1793, albeit for just a couple of years.
