Trefid Spoon with Beaded Rattail, 1696

Spoon - Trefid with beaded rattail - London 1696 by William Scarlett - 20.2cm long; 62g - DC/9906
William Scarlett was probably the most prolific silver spoon maker of the late 17th and early 18th centuries and this silver trefid spoon bears his distinctive "W over "S" maker's mark ("S" part worn). It is a good quality spoon with a nice solid feel in the hand and has the added bonus of a beaded rattail to the reverse of the bowl.
Dating from the William III period, this silver spoon bears original late 17th century, dot-pricked initials to the reverse of the terminal and a good, clear set of hallmarks.
This very pleasing silver trefid spoon has an excellent unworn bowl with thick rim and is in fine condition with a lovely antique patina.
