Soup Tureen - oval bellied on four feet with acanthus leaf decoration - London 1834 by William Ker Reid - 43cm long x 27cm high; volume: 5 litres; 5350g - UY/3856

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an outstanding silver soup tureen made by a top silversmith. The oval bellied form of this tureen is probably the most perfect on the eye with its four cast floral feet, two side handles and handle to cover. The decoration is truly sumptuous and in high, crisp relief. The tureen comes complete with its original cover with appropriate hole for a ladle (we can supply an appropriate silver soup ladle if required). The capacity is an amazing 5 litres which is about 8.5 pints (or just over a gallon!). This tureen is far heavier than standard issue pieces (generally weigh 100 - 130 oz) and as such is far superior in quality. In addition to its practicable pruposes for serving soup (it could also be used as a punch bowl), this tureen makes a very impressive centrepiece.

The condition of this tureen is equally fabulous with a beautiful original patina. There are neither any engravings nor erasures. Fine quality soup tureens are difficult to find and this is an especially good example.

William Ker Reid was apprenticed to Edward Barnard whose company became the largest 19th century makers of quality silver hollowware.
