Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an excellent silver apostle spoon dating from the James I period. It remains in fabulous condition with a good, thick rim to the fig-shaped bowl and a fine patina throughout. Of particular note is the clear set of hallmarks; both the bowl mark and stem marks remain very clear and crisp and include a very good example of the "EH" maker's mark for Edward Hole. The gilt apostle finial depicts St John and has a sacred dove nimbus. The reverse of the bowl has dot-pricked initials and at just shy of 2 troy ounces, the spoon has a good weight and balance. This is a really fine example of an early 17th century apostle spoon.
