Spoon - Trefid; Gilt Engraved Flameback - London 1689 by Lawrence Jones - 19.2cm long; 44g - LK/8937

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

One of the rarest and most desirable forms of trefid spoon is the so called "Flameback" - these spoons are so termed from the distinctive acanthus leaf decoration around the rattail which has the appearance of flames. This spoon is a fantastic example of the type!

Both sides of the bowl bear a profusion of foliate engraving which is original to manufacture, as is the beautiful mellow coloured gilding. The trefid end of the spoon has pronounced ears and the cartouche to the reverse terminal remains free from engravings (no erasures). The hallmarks are in good order, although somewhat lost amongst the engraving. The "LI" maker's mark is clear and represents the premier specialist spoonmaker Lawrence Jones.

A truly fabulous spoon in excellent condition throughout with thick rim to the bowl.
