Spoon - Trefid; gilt - Southampton circa 1699 by Peter Webb (possibly) - 19.8cm long; 55g - DU/8758

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

The date of manufacture for this trefid spoon can be determined from the dot-pricked betrothal initials and date to the reverse terminal "WB" over "1699" over "WP" and the lace-back style of decoration (allowing for provincial manufacture) fits with the period. This William & Mary period spoon is gilt all over and has the die-struck decoration to the reverse of the bowl and front of the stem. The rose mark is struck four times to the reverse stem and has been tentatively attributed to Peter Webb of Southampton. The condition is fine throughout with minimal wear to the decoration and a good bowl.
