Spoon - Seal-top - London 1586 by William Cawdell - 15cm long; 31g - RA/3612

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This rare Elizabethan period spoon has a squat seal terminal in the typical style of the second half of the 16th century and was made in the workshop of the specialist spoon maker William Cawdell – it bears a clear example of his "W" enclosed within a "C" mark.

The spoon is in generally good all round condition with just a few small bumps to the bowl and some tiny wear to the leading edge. The seal terminal has a clear "v" notch join, retains some of its original gilding and the flat plate is free from engraving.

The hallmarks are in great condition with a good leopard's head to the bowl and a distinct date letter, lion passant and maker's mark to the reverse of the stem.
