Susanna Barker Silver Madeira Label, 1786
Sold
Wine Label - Madeira - London circa 1786 by Susannah Barker - 4.7cm wide; 11.6g - HA/3962
Susanna Barker was one of the finest silver wine label makers of the late 18th century and especially renowned for her navette-shaped label of which this Madeira label is a fine example.
The bottle ticket has a bead edge that was a popular design during the late 1770's and early 1780's. The presence of the intaglio duty mark helps date this label to between 1786 when it was introduced and 1793 when Susanna Barker either died or retired from business. The label is in excellent condition with good, crisp hallmarks.
