Marrow Spoon - Teaspoon-sized - London 1793 by George Smith & William Fearn - 13.1cm long; 15g - KT/1464

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Teaspoon-size is a rare and unusual size for a silver marrow scoop and this is a fine example of the type. Most are the much larger table spoon-sized, but the smaller version is more able to reach in to small crevices to eke out the tasty marrow bone fat. They were produced in very small numbers and tend to date from the late 18th century.

This example takes the form of a teaspoon bowl to one end and a narrow scoop to the other end and reverse side. It is hallmarked in the appropriate form for teaspoons of the period (i.e. no leopard's head crowned). The spoon was made by the top flatware specialist partnership of the late 18th century and despite the narrowness of the stem, the double initialled "GS/WF" mark can be read. The spoon is in excellent all round condition.
