Spoon - Dog-nose - London 1707 by Thomas Sadler - 20.4cm long; 62g - JC/4399a

This is an eye-catching Queen Anne period silver dog nose table spoon with a bold terminal and striking rattail to the reverse of the bowl.

The reverse of the terminal is engraved with an original betrothal triangle where the upper "F" is the newly wed's surname initial and "I" (for a modern "J") and "E" being the first name initials. The spoon is made from the purer Britannia standard silver with a great date letter for 1707 and the SA maker's mark (partly mis-struck) for Thomas Sadler who had formerly been the apprentice of the specialist spoonmaker Lawrence Coles.

The spoon has an excellent weight and feel in the hand and is in superb condition with a good unworn bowl and fine, antique patina.

Please see link below to a matching spoon by Thomas Sadler. This example has a more easily legible date letter, hence the more expensive price.
